"goodnight sweetheart" is a multichannel sound installation for 8 transducers and 2 speakers (10 channels), produced as part of the collective exhibition Tâches Aveugles, which opened on January 26, 2018 at the Maréchalerie, a contemporary art space in Versailles, France. The work is an attempt to tap into the energy of space, which unfolds in interactions between the bodies occupying it. Sound, the medium of my installation, is the vibration emerging from the encounter of bodies, traversing them before fleeing.
Like sound, energies are ephemeral. They disappear, after crossing through a space and transforming it into memory. Even in its emptiness, a space carries traces of movements and their produced energies that have marked it throughout its history.
My conscience is sensitized toward the energies of spaces that formed me. I am the mirror that takes these different spaces into a journey, reflecting images of each one to the other. But is there a space that is a nucleus, through which all other spaces can be read? Is there a nucleus to the cosmos, as Darwin says? If I look for it, I only find energies spread in different directions. In my different formative spaces, the origin remains inaccessible. There are only fragments left and I am the link that ties them together.
In the void of the art gallery, a space is produced. There, sound deploys energies that act on the bodies and consciences of visitors who also, in turn, transform these energies. A relation and a new social space is born, as a result, a space reproduced in the consciences of those crossing it physically. It is a space transformed that is also set to disappear.
